TikTok’s Zhang Yiming’s Net Worth

Meet Zhang Yiming, a Chinese internet entrepreneur, He founded ByteDance in 2012 and developed the news aggregator Toutiao and the video sharing platform TikTok (Douyin). As of 2019, with more than 1 billion monthly users, ByteDance is valued at US$75 billion, making it the most valuable startup in the world. Zhang’s personal wealth is estimated at $16.2 billion, making him the 13th richest person in China according to Forbes estimates. Zhang was born in April 1983. In 2001, He enrolled at Nankai University in Tianjin, where he majored in microelectronics before changing to software engineering, and graduated in 2005.

TikTok (Tik Tok or Tik Talk) is an iOS and Android social media video app for creating and sharing short lip-sync, comedy and talent videos. The app was launched in 2017 by Chinese developer ByteDance for markets outside China. But dance debuted the first Doyen (for the Chinese market in September 2016). TikTok and Doyen are similar but run on different servers to comply with Chinese censorship restrictions. This application allows users to create short music and lip-sync videos of 3 to 15 seconds and short looping videos of 3 to 60 seconds. It is popular in Asia, the United States and other parts of the world. TikTok is not available in China, and its servers are based in countries where the app is available.

In 2018, the application gained popularity and became the most downloaded app in the US in October 2018, the first Chinese app to do so. As of 2018, it is available in more than 150 markets and 75 languages are. In February 2019, TickTock, together with Doyen, hit a billion downloads globally, excluding Android installs in China.

Though Yiming is married and has had his own experience working with different organizations including Microsoft, little is know about the young mans personal life as he really loves to keep it private.
